NHRA continues to race forward with a number of key initiatives, including a multiyear partnership with FOX Sports to televise NHRA events from the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, and the Pro Mod Drag Racing Series. FOX Sports networks aired more than 500 hours of programming throughout the year, highlighted by 20+ race-day shows, including eight on FOX’s national network, in addition to qualifying broadcasts throughout the weekend. Position Summary:
The Clock Operator is a seasonal role that serves as a key support position within the race day operation at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. Stationed primarily in the tower at Race Control, this individual plays an important behind-the-scenes role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of the timing system by logging driver and vehicle data as events unfold. Beyond the tower, this position offers a dynamic, hands-on experience with the opportunity to contribute across multiple facets of the race environment — from the staging lanes to the drag strip itself. Depending on the needs of the event, this person may find themselves assisting with track preparation, managing pit traffic, supporting vehicle inspections, or operating track equipment such as an ATV. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives in a high-energy atmosphere and can shift priorities quickly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate the timing and data entry system in Race Control within the tower
- Enter driver car numbers and dial-in times accurately into the computer system during race events
- Support the Race Operations team with track preparation as needed
- Assist in various areas of the staging lanes during events
- Perform duties on the drag strip, including at the ready line, water box, and start line
- Assist with pit traffic flow and management
- Operate a tractor or ATV as requested
- Work across multiple operational areas of the facility as assigned
Minimum Skills and Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- A prior background in motorsports is highly preferred
- Must be able to handle sounds at a high volume
- computer and typing skills are required
- Organizational skills are a must
- Ability to maintain focus and concentration in potentially chaotic environments
- Must be flexible with meal and rest periods
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, push, pull, run, climb stairs, and lift up to 50 pounds as needed
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under NHRA insurance policy.
- Must arrive on time and ready to work at shift start
- Must be able to enforce all facility policies and procedures, including start line policies, to ensure a safe environment for all guests
- Must be able to work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results
- Ability to work well within a team and independently
- Ability to follow and understand verbal and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
